Lufthansa Group, the parent company of major airlines like Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines, has introduced a new loyalty program called Uptrip. This program uses NFTs (digital collectibles) to reward passengers when they travel with their airlines.
Uptrip attracts passengers to embark on a new kind of journey, where each flight becomes a chance to gather unique digital trading cards. These cards reflect the beauty of various themes, including the magic of specific places, the magnificence of aircraft within their fleets, and even the charm of particular holidays.
These cards hold the key to unlocking a treasure trove of special privileges. Accumulating cards from particular collections grants passengers access to a host of exclusive benefits. Including enjoying complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi, indulging in the comfort of luxurious airport lounges, or converting cards into tangible airline miles for future adventures.
The program also plans to introduce a card trading feature, letting collectors engage in the thrill of completing their sets. Similar to assembling a puzzle, passengers can fill the gaps in their collections, moving closer to earning more rewards.
Designed by the innovative minds at Lufthansa Innovation Group, Uptrip soars on the wings of Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. Prior to its official launch, this program underwent rigorous testing with over 20,000 users, resulting in an impressive collection of more than 200,000 digital trading cards.
As the curtain rises on this groundbreaking initiative, Lufthansa Group joins the ranks of visionary companies leveraging Polygon’s swiftness and cost-efficiency. This trend has been adopted by stars like Coca-Cola, who entered the NFT space with an exclusive series on the Base blockchain. The series combined famous paintings with the Coca-Cola bottle silhouette, showcasing a blend of traditional and modern branding. Each NFT represented a unique fusion of classical art and Coca-Cola.
Additionally, Adidas Originals and BAPE collaborated on the Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low sneakers. These limited-edition shoes were auctioned with NFT digital twins on Adidas Collect. One hundred Ethereum NFTs were matched with 100 pairs of sneakers, featuring BAPE’s iconic elements in a white design. Notably, Starbucks, Nike, McDonald’s, and Reddit are also utilizing Polygon to infuse the NFT magic into their offerings.
