The United States has imposed a ban on Sophgo Technologies, the company set up by the Founder Zhan Ketuan over the accusation of ending up in Huawei products, dodging sanctions.
Citing the U.S. officials, the Financial Times reported that Sohgo was “ acting at the behest of Beijing” to help China boost its chip manufacturing capabilities. The report goes on to note a tough time for Bitmain when Zhan shifted focus to AI chips, causing some internal struggles.
The initial root of the trouble has been tracked from the day when Zhan began shifting resources to AI chip development; worth noting that the move of the founder has sparked in-house tussle and conflict.
FT’s report quotes that “ We are a company focused on high-performance processors. We started with cryptocurrency processors and now we’re entering artificial intelligence, it’s a new area of application but not a complete pivot.”
The blacklist over the AI manufacturing company will restrict it from working with Taiwan Semiconductors Company, the news has also sparked speculation that the working of Bitmain might get affected.
