Cryptocurrency exchange VALR has partnered with African payments infrastructure provider Onafriq to expand access to digital assets by connecting crypto services with mobile money networks across the continent.
The collaboration aims to enable millions of users in Africa to access crypto using widely adopted mobile money platforms.
Through the integration, individuals will be able to move funds between mobile wallets and digital asset services, making it easier to buy, sell, and transfer crypto.
Mobile money has become one of the most widely used financial tools across Africa, particularly in regions where traditional banking services remain limited. By leveraging Onafriq’s extensive payment network, the partnership seeks to bridge the gap between mobile financial services and digital asset markets.
Onafriq operates one of the largest payment networks in Africa, connecting hundreds of millions of mobile wallets and bank accounts across more than 40 countries.
The integration with VALR will allow users to convert funds from mobile money accounts into crypto and withdraw digital assets back into their mobile wallets.
According to the companies, the initiative is designed to support broader financial inclusion by making digital asset services accessible to people who may not have access to conventional banking infrastructure.
Africa has emerged as a growing market for crypto adoption in recent years, driven by demand for cross-border payments, remittances, and alternative financial services. Mobile money platforms already play a key role in everyday financial transactions across many African economies.
