According to a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 13, 2023, by Tether, the leading issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, they have announced a change in leadership as the company seeks to expand its business horizons. Paolo Ardoino, who has been Tether’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since 2017, is set to take the helm as the new CEO of the company, commencing in December 2023.

Ardoino’s multi-faceted responsibilities
Ardoino’s appointment will see him succeed Jean-Louis van der Velde, who will transition to an advisory role for Tether while continuing to serve as the CEO of Tether’s sister company, Bitfinex. Notably, Ardoino will also maintain his current positions as CTO for Bitfinex and Chief Strategy Officer for the Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions, Holepunch.
According to Tether, this leadership change reflects the company’s proactive approach to exploring new business avenues, including peer-to-peer communications, renewable energy, resilient data storage, and Bitcoin mining. Ardoino has played a pivotal role in driving Tether’s expansion strategy over recent years, making this transition a natural progression for the company.
Tether cited Ardoino’s qualifications, pointing to his extensive involvement in various aspects of the crypto and blockchain space, such as Holepunch, Bitcoin mining, hardware, and artificial intelligence. As per authorities, it has been actively involved in the Bitcoin mining sector throughout 2023, marking its presence with a mining operation in Uruguay in May as reported by Today News.
