Ethereum futures exchange-traded funds (ETFs) may soon hit the U.S. market, with potential trading as early as next week. According to analysts, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is willing to fast-track these ETFs’ approval process, possibly before a looming government shutdown on October 1.
On September 28, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart expressed optimism regarding the likelihood of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) greenlighting a wave of Ethereum futures ETFs in the coming week. His remarks were prompted by fellow ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, who suggested that the SEC was keen on expediting the launch of Ether futures ETFs.
Balchunas further commented that the SEC wanted to resolve this matter before a looming government shutdown, scheduled for October 1, unless Congress can reach a funding agreement. This potential shutdown will affect various federal agencies, including financial regulators.
Currently, there are 15 Ethereum futures ETFs from nine issuers awaiting SEC approval, including VanEck, ProShares, Grayscale, and others. The analysts estimate a robust 90% chance of Ethereum futures ETFs launching in October, with Valkyrie’s Bitcoin futures product (BTF) potentially gaining Ethereum exposure on October 3. The week following, pure Ethereum futures ETFs could debut, led by Volatility Shares.
However, the SEC had postponed its decision on ARK 21Shares’ and VanEck’s spot Ethereum ETF applications until December 25 and December 26, respectively. This delay was attributed to the need for more time to review the proposals due to a lack of public comments, as reported by Todayq News on September 28, 2023.
If approved, these ETFs could offer investors regulated and accessible access to Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency. This development has garnered significant attention from the crypto community and traditional investors, potentially reshaping the landscape of crypto investment in the United States. All eyes are now on the SEC’s decision in the coming days, with the potential for Ethereum futures ETFs to become a reality in the near future
