Vitalik doesn’t like iOS-only apps and urges the EU to ban them

Vitalik doesn't like iOS-only apps and urges the EU to ban them

The creator of Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, Vitalik Buterin stated on Twitter that he wants the European Union (EU) to outlaw iOS-only apps. Additionally, Buterin notes in his tweet that businesses of a certain scale are required to create their versions of each central platform or use a cross-platform development framework.

He explicitly claims that sometimes, his “less libertarian” side desires that the EU would outlaw the development of iOS-only apps and mandate that businesses of a certain size either build versions of their software for all major platforms or use cross-platform development frameworks.

Dan Scanlon, the creator of the Web3 application Genesis, agreed with Buterin when he claimed that the government should not be allowed to use any development framework as a criterion for evaluating any software. Instead, it can impose restrictions on corporate organizations by managing very large marketplaces.

For those who are unaware, the EU recently passed legislation that establishes the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will compel Apple to permit the installation of iOS apps from third-party sources. According to the new antitrust rule, operators of sizable online platforms must permit the installation of third-party software.

The EU has been tight towards Apple because of its profit-making tactics. Recently the EU forced Apple to make phones with USB-C-type adapters. The iPhone maker has stopped giving a complete adapter set due to alleged ‘environmental reasons’ and only gave a lighting cable. However, many have criticized Apple for this move, either for giving a $1000 phone without a charging set or for its clever but not-so-liked profit-making tactics.
