Turkey to introduce blockchain-based digital identification for residents to use the e-Devlet

Turkey or Türkiye intends to adopt blockchain technology for logins to its online public services. Turkish individuals will be verified while logging into e-Devlet, the country’s digital government portal where they may access a variety of public services, using a blockchain-based digital identity. 

Turkey’s vice president, Fuat Oktay, declared at the Digital Türkiye 2023 event that residents would be able to use e-wallet applications using a blockchain-based digital identity. 

The blockchain-based system, according to Oktay, will revolutionize attempts to improve e-government, and it will also make online services safer and easier to access. The ability for users to keep their digital data on their mobile devices.

Turkish people will be able to access the e-Devlet with a digital identity formed on the blockchain network thanks to the login system that will operate within the parameters of the e-wallet application, according to the vice president of Turkey. 

“With the login system that will work within the scope of the e-wallet application, our citizens will be able to enter the e-Devlet with a digital identity created in the blockchain network.”

Although several years ago, Türkiye has revealed a number of blockchain-powered projects, but only a small number of them have so far come to fruition. The nation has had ambitions for a national blockchain infrastructure since 2019. The fruits of blockchain-based objectives haven’t yet materialised, aside from a few proof-of-concept initiatives and the central bank’s digital currency test that was finally completed after repeated delays.

According to a recent study by a crypto education platform, people in many nations continue to be intrigued by cryptocurrencies. The study looked at how people in different places searched the internet for information about cryptography. As per the report, Netherlands and Turkey are at the top of the list, with 8.2% and 5.5% of their populations, respectively, searching for crypto-related phrases. 

The country with the biggest number of searches, Turkey, accounted for almost 4.7 million. The Netherlands had a greater search percentage relative to its population, but given Turkey’s larger population, more searches were made there. Chainalysis’ 2022 Global Cryptocurrency Adoption Index suggested that Turkey will be one of the fastest-growing cryptocurrency markets and was ranked in the top 20 for crypto adoption.

A recent report released by eToro called the “Retail Investor Beat” indicated that although traditional asset classes struggle to encourage greater adoption among women, cryptocurrencies appear to be more successful. The eToro team surveyed almost 10,000 global retail investors across 13 nations.
The crypto industry is continuously expanding, and the events that occurred in the past year gave investors major shocks. However, they also highlighted the need for having a clearer and deeper understanding of the crypto space to navigate safely and securely.
“Full-time” developers, defined as those who contribute to 76% of Github commits, climbed by 15.2% to over 7000. In comparison, “one-time” builders decreased by 6.2% to over 3,500 over the same period between December 2021 and December 2022, according to a Jan. 16 report from Electric Capital.
