A cryptocurrency scam has been unveiled in the village of Maharastra, India, Amboli. A gang was involved in the scam which misled people under the pretense of cryptocurrency trading. The Amboli police have arrested three of the suspects associated with the gang.
The arrested suspects are Mohammad Subhani Mohammad Umar Khan hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Sahil Mustafa Quereshi from Gujrat, and Gufran Khan from Madhya Pradesh. After the arrest, all the suspects were remanded to police custody as ordered by the court.
The registration of the police complaint
As per the police complaint, a 19-year-old student hailing from Chembur, Mumbai came to register the complaint as he was a victim of this scam. In November last year, the student called his friend to ask questions regarding cryptocurrency trading.
In response, the friend gave him a number. When the student contacted the provided number, he was informed that the price of one cryptocurrency unit was Rs 87. Also, he guaranteed to give a discount if the student purchased Rs 2 lakh worth of cryptocurrency. Lured by the offer, the student agreed to make a deal.
The accused gave a location to meet the student. According to the plan, the complainant went to the location, where the accused took Rs 2 lakhs from him guaranteeing to give the cryptocurrency.
After the accused got money, he suddenly disappeared and did not return. After the disappearance, the student realized that he had been scammed and went to the police station to file a complaint.
After the complaint was registered, police started their investigation. The police got immense help from the CCTV footage from the area and technical evidence such as mobile tracking which resulted in apprehending the suspects.

The first suspect, Mohammad Subhani is a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Ashrafpur Kichhauchha, Uttar Pradesh, the second suspect, Sahil is from Ahmedabad, Alifnagar Sonal Factory, Gujrat and Gufran Khan is from Shahjanabad, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The court sent all the three suspects to police custody. Police are now investigating their criminal backgrounds as they suspect that the gang has been involved in more similar scams. As knowledge regarding the cryptocurrency industry is uncommon in the Indian market, scammers try to lure new investors by giving misleading information and ultimately trap them.
