A hacking group with ties to Russia has claimed responsibility for the massive cyberattack on X. The attack blocked thousands of users from accessing the social media platform, but services were quickly restored.
In a post on X on March 10, cybersecurity company SpyoSecure said that hacker group Dark Storm claimed responsibility for the DDoS attack in a Telegram message written by the group’s leader.
“If you were wondering why Twitter was down, Dark Storm Team was attacking it,” SpyoSecure said.

Dark Storm’s Message and Telegram Ban
Since then, the platform’s rules have led to the deletion of the Telegram channel. They said they “took Twitter offline” in a screenshot shared on X, which also shows failed connection attempts from around the world.
In a March 10 post to X, social media star and co-founder of NFT marketplace NFTz.me Ed Krassenstein said that he had also been looking into the attack and was in touch with Dark Storm’s leader, who again said that they were behind it.
“He tells me that the attack is just a demonstration of our strength and has nothing to do with politics,” Krassenstein said.
Since 2023, the pro-Palestinian hacker group Dark Storm has been active. It is linked to Russia and is known for targeting NATO countries.
Elon Musk, the owner of the platform, confirmed that a hack on March 10 prevented some users from accessing the social media site.
In an interview with Larry Kudlow on March 10, he told Kudlow that he had a rough idea of where the hackers’ IP address came from.
The DOGE Controversy
“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a giant cyberattack to try and bring down the X system, and the IP addresses of the hackers came from the Ukraine area.
It comes after violent protests at Tesla factories across the US as part of a larger movement to “Take down Tesla.” These protests are against Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is cutting jobs in many government departments and reducing funding for various agencies.
Musk told Kudlow that he still believes they are “doing the right thing here” even though there are protests because DOGE is cutting money to programs that “very few taxpayers would agree to make sense.”
Tesla stock is also going down. In the last trading session, Tesla’s stock price dropped more than 15%, to $222 per share. Google Finance estimates that in the after-hours session, it is down another 3% to $215.
The stock has gone up 24% in the last year, but it’s still not where it was on Dec. 17, 2024, when it hit a high point of $480.
A Dark Storm DDoS Attack had hit the social media platform X before. In August last year, Musk said hackers attacked the platform before his interview with Donald Trump, who was trying to become president at the time.
