Blockchain technology has been hailed as a tool that can help humans collaborate and interact with each other more effectively. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin discussed this and more during a recent virtual talk hosted by the reState Foundation, alongside Indian mystic Sadhguru.
According to Buterin, blockchain can help groups of people trust each other more, collaborate across long distances, and identify common values. “Ultimately every technology is a social technology in some way. These are tools to help groups of people organize,” he said.
Sadhguru pointed out that humans often identify too strongly with groups, which can hinder our ability to progress ethically and consciously. However, he also stressed that humans are the “highest level of technology” and that by elevating our consciousness, we can improve the way we interact with technology.

The speakers highlighted that the proper usage of emerging technologies like blockchain is key to their implementation as tools for greater understanding and raising human consciousness. Buterin stressed that while emerging technologies won’t solve all our problems, they have the potential to result in “realized cooperation” and learning opportunities.
