The Chief Executive Officer, Richard Teng of the largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, Binance, says that the company is waiting for more clarity before taking a decision over any next step, regardless of a fresh reset in the United States.
The exchange is taking steps cautiously in the market of the United States as it is waiting for more clarity before making any big moves, even though the nation is witnessing more freedom under the newly elected President, Donald Trump.
The CEO of Binance gave an interview with Bloomberg in which he mentioned that he has a different perspective of seeing things from an administrative angle. He also pointed out to the shift from the more aggressive stance under the Biden administration.
Looking for new locations
Under Biden’s administration, the regulators of the United States filed lawsuits against various crypto businesses such as Coinbase, Binance, and Ripple. Teng also asserted in that interview that in my opinion, we have a fresh reset and a restart.
However, he went on to add that Binance is still holding back for more clarity before determining its next steps in the United States market. Teng also mentioned that the exchange is seeking for few new locations to start its functioning and that the board anticipates making a decision quickly over the matter.
However, it is not clear, if the new location includes only the United States or if it will be outside its boundaries.
In the last month of last year, Teng publicized that Binance was giving more importance to global deployment instead of a return to the market of the United States. Adding more to this, he further anticipated that several countries as well as organizations, would initiate deploying funds into crypto.
As per Teng, this incident was a result of the decision of America to publicize plans for a strategic Bitcoin reserve and Bitcoin reserve bill of Brazil.
Serious accusations on the exchange
Taking a dive into the recent history of Binance, it was abandoned from the market of the United States in November 2023 having accusations of money laundering breaches and running as an unlicensed money transmitter by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The settlement was done with a $4.3 billion deal with the government of the United States, marking the deal as the largest settlement in the history of the U.S. Treasury Department. Not only the U.S. but the Financial Conduct Authority of the United Kingdom also asked Binance to stop all regulated activity in the country in 2021.
