Bill Gates frequently cited artificial intelligence (AI) as the most intriguing area for technical growth today during the “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session, in which he answered queries regarding climate change, Web3, metaverse, and veganism, among other things.
He claimed that Web3 and the metaverse are not “revolutionary” technologies, which suggests that their significance does not persuade him.
In response to a Redditor’s query, the business tycoon responded, “AI is the big one.” The query was on what modern technology has the promise that the internet did in 2000. Although he doesn’t think Web3 is even that significant or that the metaverse alone was revolutionary, he does believe that AI is fairly revolutionary.
When questioned about ChatGPT, a chatbot, he responded that the product offers a preview of things to come. This “whole approach and the rate of innovation,” he said, ‘impressed’ him. ChatGPT is a conversational language model developed by OpenAI. It is trained on a dataset of conversational text, such as social media posts, movie and book scripts, and online documents. As a result, it can understand and respond to a wide range of topics and can be used to generate human-like text in various contexts, such as chatbots and virtual assistants.
Gates also discussed possible uses of AI in his philanthropic endeavors. He provided the Gates Foundation as an example of how AI may be included, where they want tutors who can keep students interested in mathematics while they enjoy it. Additionally, he asserted that AI could assist Africans who lack access to doctors with their medical needs.
“Thinking of it in the Gates Foundation context, we want to have tutors that help kids learn math and stay interested. We want medical help for people in Africa who can’t access a Doctor.”
Gates laid out a prophecy in 2021 that within two or three years, the majority of virtual meetings would switch from 2D platforms like Zoom and Teams to the metaverse. He continued by expressing his admiration for how virtual reality technology enhances the experience of distance meetings. However, the billionaire has made it apparent in the past that he disapproves of cryptocurrencies and NFT. He also claims that such investments are “100% based on bigger fool theory.”
