Arbitrum Security Council has taken emergency action to freeze 30,766 ETH linked to the recent KelpDAO exploit, marking a significant step in mitigating the impact of one of the largest DeFi security incidents of the year.
The funds, held in an address on Arbitrum One, were identified as being connected to the exploit.
Following extensive technical evaluation, the Security Council implemented a specialized intervention to secure the assets without disrupting the broader network or affecting users and decentralized applications operating on Arbitrum.
According to official details, the council coordinated closely with law enforcement authorities, who provided input regarding the suspected identity of the exploiter.
This collaboration played a key role in guiding the response strategy while maintaining the integrity and security of the ecosystem.
After significant deliberation, the Security Council executed a controlled process to transfer the compromised funds to an intermediary wallet. As of April 20, 11:26 PM ET, the 30,766 ETH had been successfully moved and are now held in a frozen state.
The assets are no longer accessible to the original address associated with the exploit and can only be moved through further governance decisions within the Arbitrum framework.
The intervention was carefully designed to avoid altering any other chain state or impacting unrelated users, highlighting the protocol’s focus on minimizing collateral damage during crisis response.
The move underscores the increasing role of governance bodies in responding to large-scale exploits within decentralized finance.
The incident also reflects broader industry challenges in balancing decentralization with the need for rapid intervention during security breaches.
As investigations continue, further actions regarding the frozen funds are expected to be coordinated with relevant stakeholders.
